Abstract
Porous polyurethane-chitosan blends were prepared by thermally induced phase separation and characterised by TGA, DSC, IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and mechanical testing. The bioactivity of the blends was determined by investigating the ability of apatite to form on the blend surface in a simulated body fluid. The results are discussed in terms of blend porosity, heat stability, thermal properties, interaction between the polymers, compression properties and morphology. The blends are considered potential candidates for tissue engineering. 20 refs.

Abstract
Cellular foams based on 2,2-bis (4-cyanatophenyl)propane were prepared using azodicarbonamide as blowing agent and the effect of blowing agent concentration on the density and compression properties of the foams investigated. It was found that foam density, compression strength and compression modulus decreased with increasing blowing agent concentration and that the foams exhibited better compression properties than foams of other thermosets but inferior compression properties compared with those of corresponding syntactic foams having similar densities. 18 refs.
