Abstract
Recent developments in metal (steel) and polymer (nylon-6, nylon-6,6, polyester or viscose) tyre breaker cords aimed at improving cost efficiency and corrosion resistance are reviewed in terms of different types of construction. Abstract
The chemical modification of polybutene by chlorination, bromination, chlorobromination, chlorosulphonation and bromosulphonation reactions followed by vulcanisation was investigated and the properties of the products were studied. Applications of the products as elastomers, coatings, adhesives, as impact modifiers for poly(vinyl chloride), and as flame retardants for polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene are discussed. 9 refs.

Abstract
The synthesis of ternary copolymers of 2,4-toluene diisocyanate and various proportions of propylene carbonate and N-methylpyrrolidone in the presence of triethylamine as catalyst, and their characterisation by FTIR, proton NMR, elemental analysis, tensile and thermal properties, is described. The kinetics and mechanism of the copolymerisation were investigated, and the effects of monomer ratio on properties of the products are discussed. 7 refs.

Abstract
The crosslinking of polyethylene with acrylonitrile in the presence of t-butyl peroxide and tellurium was investigated by extrusion through a capillary viscometer. The effects of reaction temperature and time on the degree of crosslinking and formation of a three-dimensional crosslinked structure were studied and the results are discussed. 5 refs.

The effects of the physico-mechanical characteristics of various types of hollow glass microspheres on the properties of composites with epoxy resin binders were investigated by SEM, density and compression strength measurements. Abstract
The effects of tertiary amine accelerator content and curing conditions of an adhesive composite based on epoxy resin and dicyanodiamine on the physico-mechanical properties of adhesive joints and on glass transition temperatures were investigated by shear adhesive strength, viscosity, dynamic modulus and gel content measurements. Changes in properties of composites with different accelerator contents during storage were also studied. 6 refs.

Abstract
The electrical properties of composites based on an unsaturated polyester resin with various proportions of a number of conductive (graphite, copper and aluminium powders) and dielectric (glass microspheres) fillers, and also basalt flakes and polystyrene foam packaging waste, were investigated by dielectric permittivity and loss measurements at various frequencies. The effects of different fillers on dielectric properties are discussed. 5 refs.

The combustion characteristics of polyurethane open-pore and closed-pore foam composites filled with hollow glass microspheres were investigated at different pyrolysis temperatures. The effects of the inert filler on the maximum surface temperature and on the time taken to reach that temperature are discussed in terms of the heat loss and insulation properties of the glass spheres. 8 refs.

The effects of ultraviolet irradiation on polyethylene containing mineral and synthetic oils, higher fatty acids and esters as plasticisers and benzophenone as photosensitiser were investigated by FTIR and ESR spectroscopy. Abstract
The effects of fullerene C60 on the thermo-oxidative degradation of solution-cast films of polycarbonate (PC) derived from diphenylolpropane and phosgene were investigated by DSC and TGA. The results are compared with those for PC without additives, and with poly(methyl methacrylate) with or without the addition of fullerene C60, and the maximum temperature limit for fullerene C60 as an antioxidant in the thermal oxidation of polymers is discussed. 12 refs.

Abstract
The effects of various proportions of boron oxide and boric acid as fireproofing agents on the flammability, rheological and mechanical properties of high density polyethylene and poly(butylene terephthalate) were investigated by combustion testing, capillary viscometry and tensile testing. The results are discussed in terms of optimisation of the fire resistance properties with retention of the physicochemical properties. 8 refs.

The properties of sulphonated polymer cation-exchange resins and of amphoteric ion-exchange resins incorporating cellulose-containing waste sawdust were investigated by porosity and ion exchange capacity measurements.
