Abstract
Butadiene was polymerised in the presence of a neodymium versatate-diisobutylaluminium hydride-hexachloro-p-xylene catalyst system and the influence of polymerisation temperature on the polymerisation kinetics and molecular characteristics of the resulting polybutadiene investigated. It was found that the average molec.wts. and polydispersities of the polybutadiene increased with increasing polymerisation temperature and that polymerisation probably involved at least two types of active centres. 12 refs. Abstract
An investigation was carried out into the thermal degradation of butadiene rubber and polyisoprene rubber in organic solvents (toluene and heavy petroleum residue). Thermal solvolysis was carried out in a rotating autoclave reactor under solvent vapour pressure at temperatures from 200 to 380 degrees C and the decomposition products analysed by FTIR spectroscopy and PMR spectroscopy. A sequence of chemical transformations was established and a comparison made of the thermal degradation process in solvents with the pyrolysis of rubbers in the absence of solvents. 35 refs. Abstract
An investigation was carried out into the activating effect of shungite in nitrile rubbers (BNKS-18, BNKS-28 and BNKS-40). The kinetics of vulcanisation, degree of swelling in toluene and physicomechanical properties of nitrile rubber vulcanisates containing zinc oxide and vulcanisates in which zinc oxide was replaced with 5, 10 and 15 parts of shungite were determined and compared. It was found that shungite did have an activating action in the sulphur vulcanisation of nitrile rubber but was less active in the presence of carbon black. However, highly elastic vulcanisates could still be obtained and shungite could be used as a partial replacement for zinc oxide. 3 refs. Abstract
2-Sulphobenzoic acid imide was evaluated as a stabiliser and scorch retarder in butadiene-methylstyrene rubber (SKMS-30ARK) and rubber mixes based on NR and SKMS-30ARKM-15 by means of DTA, scorch measurements, accelerated heat ageing tests and physicomechanical testing. The results obtained were compared with those for rubbers containing N-nitrosodiphenylamine and ionol. 6 refs. (Article translated from Kauchuk I Rezina, No.2, 2008, p.15-16)

Abstract
The effects of various fillers (whiting, titanium dioxide, kaolin, talc, wollastonite and quartzite) on the resistance of silicone rubber vulcanisates to various oils, diesel, petrol and an isooctane-toluene mixture, were investigated. Changes in the weight and hardness of the rubbers in the different corrosive media were followed and the most effective filler for producing oil and petrol resistant vulcanisates sought. 4 refs. Abstract
The effects of various additives on the rheological properties (viscosity) of butyl rubber composites were investigated using an MRT capillary viscometer in the temperature range 80 to 120 degrees C at shear rates ranging from 1 to 700 s/1. Additives employed were Rubrax, low-density polyethylene (LDPE 15803-020), a copolymer of ethylene with vinyl acetate (CEVA 11507-375) and p-tert-butylphenol-formaldehyde resin 101K (AFFS). 4 refs. Abstract
An investigation was carried out to identify the reaction products of zinc oxide with epsilon-caprolactam and stearic acid in a eutectic melt using IR spectroscopy. The components are used to produce Dispractol I, which serves as a dispersant and activator in rubber vulcanisation. It was established that a binary epsilon-caprolactam-stearic acid eutectic melt in a ternary epsilon-cparolactam-stearic acid-zinc oxide meelt was a stearic acid donor for zinc stearate formation. Depleted of binary eutectic, the melt was enriched with epsilon-caprolactam, which was capable of forming p- and pi-complexes with zinc. 6 refs. Abstract
Oligomers were prepared by the interaction of epsilon-caprolactam with alcohols and amines (decanol, glycerin, PVAl, diethanolamine and hexamethylene diamine) and evaluated as modifiers in standard elastomer composites and industrial tyre carcass mixes based on SKI-3 polyisoprene. The physicomechanical properties of the novel rubber mixes and vulcanisates were investigated and compared with those of mixes and vulcanisates containing a modifier based on resorcinol and urotropin. The oligomers were found to be particularly effective at increasing rubber-to-cord bond strength. 4 refs. (Article translated from Kauchuk I Rezina, No.2, 2008, p.25-28)

Abstract
A novel polycondensation filling method for the production of composites from thermosetting polymers and fibres is presented. The method involves the production of a phenol-formaldehyde oligomer in the structure and on the surface of a filler directly during the formation of the composites and eliminates the need for energy- and labour-intensive stages, such as vacuum drying and dissolution of solvents. Data are included on properties of composites, including magnetic composites, produced using the new method. (Article translated from Plasticheskie Massy, No.1, 2008, p.6-8)
