Abstract
The synthesis of novel copolymers with improved heat resistance based on an unsaturated polyester resin with aniline-phenol-formaldehyde resin and iodine or hydropyrite as curing system is described and their curing characteristics were investigated. The effects of the layered application of components and of magnetic treatment on the degree of curing, and on impact, flexural and water absorption properties of composites of the copolymers with synthetic fibres such as polyacrylonitrile, polyamide-6 or viscose as fillers were evaluated, and the results are discussed in terms of interfacial adhesion between binder and filler. 5 refs. Abstract
The reprocessing of recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate) was investigated by a number of methods including plasticisation with dibutyl phthalate or poly(ethylsiloxane), addition of basalt wool as a mixture of dispersed filler and reinforcing fibres, polymer chain extension with epoxy-bisphenol A resins and chemical depolymerisation by treatment with sodium hydroxide to give terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. Abstract
The development of a method to predict the characteristic temperatures of thermal breakdown of polymers by thermal analysis techniques such as DTA, TG or DTG combined with previously published equations is described. The method was validated by comparison of calculated values at various heating rates with experimental data reported in the literature for a range of polymers including polycarbonate, polyimide and polyoxadiazole, and polysulphide at different degrees of conversion. 9 refs.
