Abstract
The growing use of liquid silicone rubber in medical applications is briefly discussed and the LSE 4000 series of liquid silicone rubbers for medical and pharmaceutical applications is introduced. Examples of medical applications of LSE 4000 are presented and the development of a two-component liquid silicone rubber topcoat (TP3719) for reducing surface friction is reported. This topcoat can be applied to any silicone rubber to provide a marked reduction in friction, lower dust attraction and enhanced cleanability through sterilisation. 2 refs. Abstract
The possibility of vulcanising hydrogenated nitrile rubbers (Therban C3446 and Therban A42307) with quinolic ether was investigated and the effects of quinolic ether content and temperature on the vulcanisation characteristics and of quinolic ether content on certain properties of the rubber mixes and compounds evaluated. The rubber vulcanisates possessed a good combination of processing properties and physicomechanical properties. (Article translated from Kauchik I Rezina, No.2, 2009, p.17-20) 8 refs.

Abstract
Polybutadiene latex was prepared at a temperature of 5 to 6 degrees C in an aqueous emulsion stabilised with potassium salts of fatty acids and disproportionated rosin and ozonised in a thermostatically controlled flask. The factors affecting the formation and stability of ozonide rings during ozonolysis of the latex were investigated and the activation energy of thermal breakdown of ozonide rings under given experimental conditions determined. Abstract
An investigation was carried out into the kinetics of vulcanisation of composites based on alpha,omega-divinylpolydimethyl siloxane rubber and containing hydrophobised pyrogenic silica, a crosslinking agent, an inhibitor and platinum catalyst. The effects of filler content, catalyst, temperature and inhibitor concentration on gel time and life of the composites were examined and an empitrical equation derived for calculating gel time and composite lifetime as a function of temperature and molar ratio of inhibitor and platinum catalyst. Abstract
An innovative feedstock component, called Nanoprene, with a very narrow particle size distribution, is reported and its effect on the properties of rubber mixes is discussed. Nanoprene grades available are briefly described and the results of tests on tyres containing Nanoprene are presented. The use of Nanoprene in tyres in shown to improve rolling resistance, wet traction and abrasion resistance. (Article translated from Kauchuk I Rezina, No.2, 2009, p.33-35)

Abstract
The results are reported of tests conducted on barrier layers fabricated from a tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer, tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene-vinylidene fluoride terpolymer and a copolymer of a fluorine-containing rubber and fluorothermoplastic for use in fuel hoses with rubber linings for automobiles. The effect of the type of rubber on the ply-separation bond strength of vulcanisates with the different fluoropolymers is examined and the fuel permeability of the hoses evaluated. Hoses which satisfy the ecological requirements of Euro-3 and Euro-4 standards are produced. (Article translated from Kauchuk i Rezina, No.2, 2009, p.43-45) 9 refs.

Abstract
A review is presented on magnetic gels whose elastic modulus varies in response to the application of a magnetic field and an examination is made of the mechanism responsible for the change in modulus. The focus is on magnetic composite gels, effect of magnetorheology on magnetic soft materials and the giant-negative magnetoelastic effect in polysaccharide magnetic gels.
