Abstract
Ethylene/1,7-octadiene copolymer was polymerised with metallocene catalyst and hydrosilylated to form silane functionalised polyethylenes. This functionalised copolymer was tested for use as a modifier in composites of rubber toughened polypropylene and m

Abstract
The importance of the antimicrobial effect for medical textiles is discussed, especially in applications associated with long term or close contact with human skin. In this article, orthopaedic stockings made from cotton and polyamide were coated with silver nanoparticles by a dip coating process. Both textiles were found to release silver ions over at least 28 days, the release for both fabrics, governed by diffusion. The amount of silver ions released by the cotton textile was higher than by the nylon by about a factor of 4, due to the existence of a larger silver reservoir in the cotton sample. Both fabrics were tested and found to be active against Escherichia coli. 26 refs.

Abstract
The use of ABS as a plastic matrix for wood flour reinforced composites is investigated in this article, and the results are compared to those of traditionally used polyolefin-wood and PVC-wood composites. Some statistical data are included to indicate th

Abstract
PVC/polyvinyl alcohol incompatible blends were investigated with respect to the pre-mixing method used and the degree of saponification of polyvinyl alcohol, on the morphology and viscoelastic properties of the blend. A powder method and an aqueous solution mixing method were both used as methods of controlling the domain size in the incompatible blend by relaxing the strong intramolecular hydrogen boding of PVA and enhancing intermolecular interaction. The effect of the pre-mixing method on the domain size in the PVC/PVA blend was investigated using PVA with different levels of saponification and polymerisation. Furthermore, the effect on the domain size by adding PMMA which has good compatibility with PVC as a third component was investigated. The interaction between the blend components was determined by measuring the viscoelastic properties. 18 refs.

Abstract
The crystallisation behaviour of poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) in large molecule solvents is described. The solvents were polyethylene glycol, dibutyl phthalate, dioctyl phthalate, and paraxylene. The polyethylene glycol solvent had an average molar mass of 400.

Abstract
Accelerated degradation tests were carried out on glass fibre-reinforced polyvinyl ester resin rebar to evaluate its long term durability. The tests used simulated building acid, sulphate and de-icing environments. Tensile strength tests were performed to measure the mechanical properties of the rebar after it was immersed in one of the environments for 50-100 days. The change in the internal pore distribution and in the shape of the rebar surface morphology was also measured. The durability of GRP rebar was not affected to any appreciable degree by exposure to the degradation environments, and consequently could be deemed suitable for use in concrete reinforcement. 19 refs.

Abstract
The thermal degradation kinetics of N-phenylmaleimide-styrene-maleic anhydride copolymers (NSMA), was analysed by a non-isothermal kinetic method. Kinetic parameters were obtained using integral and differential methods, and the most probable mechanism functions and kinetic compensation effects were discussed. The activation energy for the thermal degradation of NSMA was 211.34kJ/mol according to the Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method, and the thermal degradation was a first-order chemical reaction. A recommended rate expression for the thermal degradation reaction of NSMA, and the mathematical expressions of compensation effects for the integral and differential methods are given. 21 refs.

Abstract
Artemisia seed polysaccharide (ASP) is known to have great potential as a stabilising agent, a water retention agent and a filmogen because of its highly viscous nature and viscosity. According to the authors, however there are no published reports on the
