Title: NANOCOMPOSITES WITH INCREASED CONTENT OF BETA- PHASE BASED ON POLY(VINYLIDENE FLUORIDE-CO-HEXAFLUOROPROPYLENE) AND ORGANICALLY MODIFIED NANOCLAY

Abstract
Polymer nanocomposites of Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) with 15 mol% content of hexafluoropropylene containing up to 6.0 mass% organically modified montmorillonite nanoclay Cloisiteii15 A were prepared by melt-mixing at 200 degrees C. The initial copolymer was found to contain mainly the nonpolar m- phase. With the addition of Cloisite--15 A, the X-ray diffraction patterns showed basic peak at 2sshigher than 20 degrees together with smaller one at 222= 18 - 19 degrees which proved the formation of -- phase. At Cloisite--15 A content in the nanocomposites higher than 3.0 mass%, the X-ray patterns changed to singlepeak shape. The FT-IR analysis showed that the increase of nanoclay content results in increased d- phase content from 30% in the initial poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) to 86% in the materials containing 3.0 mass% CloisiteCC15 A. It was found that the temperatures of beginning, end and maximum of melting, as well as the crystallisation temperature, were higher than those of the initial copolymer. The tensile strength, elongation at break and energy of destruction of the composite materials containing Cloisiteaa15 A showed maximum at 0.5 - 0.75 mass% degree of filling and their values were 36.3 MPa, 1240 % and 18 J, respectively. 49 Refs.
