Abstract
The thermal and flammability properties of polypropylene containing montmorillonite clay organically modified by intercalation with the zinc, copper, nickel and cobalt metal chelates of poly(iminoethylene) dithiocarbamate, derived by reaction of poly(iminoethylene) with carbon disulphide, as flame retardant were investigated by TGA and cone calorimetry. The effects of different metal chelates on thermal stability, decomposition temperature, heat release rate, heat of combustion and char yield are discussed. 36 refs.

Abstract
The tribological properties of sintered composites of polyimide derived from pyromellitic anhydride and 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether with graphite powders were investigated by coefficient of friction and wear resistance measurements at various normal loads and sliding velocities on a steel counterface, optical microscopy of wear surfaces and SEM observation of fracture surfaces. The results are discussed in terms of the effects of test parameters on sliding performance. 42 refs.

Abstract
The fatigue properties of newly developed highly oriented all-polypropylene woven composite laminates based on a plain weave fabric derived from co-extruded three-layer tapes were investigated by static tensile testing, strength distribution, cyclic (fatigue) testing and acoustic emission. The effects of composite processing conditions and testing conditions on fatigue properties and failure behaviour are discussed in comparison with those for glass fibre- or flax fibre-reinforced propylene composites. 59 refs.

Abstract
The preparation by injection moulding of natural fibre-reinforced composites of low-density polyethylene with various proportions of agave fibres and maleic anhydride-grafted polyethylene as coupling agent, and their characterisation by impact, tensile and flexural testing, SEM analysis of fracture surfaces and morphology of the weld line by optical microscopy, is described. The effects of fibre and coupling agent contents and weld line on mechanical and morphological properties of the composites are discussed. 38 refs.

Abstract
The preparation by compounding using a twin-screw extruder followed by injection moulding of blends of polycarbonate (PC) and ABS, with and without the addition of PC oligomers, derived by polycondensation of carbonyl chloride and 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, as plasticizer, and the characterisation of the products by SEM and tensile testing, is described. The effects of the addition of PC oligomers on mechanical and morphological properties of the blends are discussed. 16 refs.

Abstract
The synthesis of ternary graft copolymers of polypropylene with maleic anhydride, butyl acrylate and various proportions of methyl methacrylate via solid-phase graft copolymerisation is described. The effects of graft copolymer composition on the non-isothermal crystallisation properties of the products were investigated by DSC and polarised optical microscopy, and the non-isothermal crystallisation kinetics were analysed by the Jeziorny method and the Mo method in terms of crystal growth and nucleation. 30 refs.

Abstract
The synthesis of crosslinked composites of silica nanospheres coated with an epoxy resin based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A cured with a polyetheramine via an initial sol-gel process from tetraethyl orthosilicate and an epoxyalkyltriethoxysilane is described. The products were characterised by silicon-29 NMR, TGA, FTIR and SEM, and the effects of the silica nanospheres on the thermal stability of the epoxy resin system are discussed. 40 refs.

Abstract
The synthesis of imide-containing siloxane-urethane copolymers with urethane and imide hard segments and siloxane soft segments by a one-stage process from 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate, hydroxyl-terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) and pyromellitic dianhydride is described. The copolymers were characterised by DSC, DMA and TGA, and the effects of copolymer composition on phase separation, mechanical properties and thermal stability are discussed in terms of the kinetics of thermal degradation. 34 refs.
