Abstract
The determination of a wrinkling criterion for non-linear elastic membrane materials such as thin polymer, fabric or rubber structures by implementing the constitutive equation proposed by Ogden for incompressible hyperelastic materials using finite element analysis is described. The wrinkle/non-wrinkle boundaries were traced by means of the relationship between strain energy and the principal values of the stretch tensor, and it was shown that initiation of wrinkling of an elastic membrane can be regarded as taking place at the point of slope change of the strain energy-stretch curve. 12 refs.

Abstract
The mechanical properties of composite sandwich beam and panel structures, composed of glass fibre-reinforced vinyl ester resin composite laminate face sheets and a cross-linked poly(vinyl chloride) closed-cell foam core and fabricated by the vacuum infusion method, when subjected to low velocity impact were investigated experimentally using a drop-weight test rig. The experimental data are discussed in comparison with the predictions of a finite element model developed to simulate impact response. 25 refs.

Abstract
The fabrication of nanocomposites of poly(styrene sulphonic acid)(PSS), synthesised by sulphonation of polystyrene obtained by emulsion polymerisation of the monomer and characterised by FTIR and degree of sulphonation, with various proportions of graphite nanosheets (NanoG) by casting dispersions of NanoG in PSS aqueous solution is described. The products were characterised by morphology (XRD, SEM and TEM) and electrical conductivity, and the effects of filler content on electrical properties are discussed in comparison with the predictions of the classical percolation theory. 34 refs.

Abstract
The preparation by a hot pressing process of composites of polyurethane derived from castor oil and polymeric 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate with cellulose fibres derived from Luffa aegyptiaca, and their characterisation by TGA, tensile testing and water absorption, is described. The effects of surface treatment of the fibres by alkali treatment (mercerisation) with or without subsequent benzylation on the mechanical, morphological and water absorption properties of the fibres and composites were investigated by FTIR, XRD, DSC and SEM, and the results are discussed. 16 refs.

Abstract
The fabrication of epoxy resin and glass fibre-reinforced epoxy resin composite bars containing various proportions of barium sulphate filler and their characterisation by flexural and impact strength measurements is described. The effects of filler content on the mechanical properties of the composites were studied by statistical analysis of the experimental data and the results are discussed. 34 refs.

Abstract
The preparation of nanocomposites of poly(lactic acid) and various proportions of organically modified montmorillonite clay by solution intercalation using toluene as solvent and by melt intercalation using a twin-screw extruder, and their characterisation by flexural properties, FESEM, EDX, XRD and DSC, is described. The effects of filler content and preparation method on mechanical, morphological and thermal properties of the nanocomposites are discussed in terms of filler dispersion. 15 refs.

Abstract
The synthesis of epoxy-functionalised core-shell impact modifiers with different particle sizes and different epoxy contents based on a poly(butyl acrylate) core and a poly(methyl methacrylate) shell grafted with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) via multi-step seeded emulsion polymerisation is described. The properties of blends of the impact modifiers with poly(butylene terephthalate) prepared by reactive melt blending and injection moulding were studied by DSC, SEM, DMA, impact and tensile testing, and the effects of the GMA content and particle size of the impact modifiers on mechanical properties of the blends are discussed. 35 refs.

The preparation by latex compounding of nanocomposites of blends of various proportions of natural rubber latex and poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) with sodium montmorillonite, and their characterisation after curing by XRD, SEM, TEM and tensile strength, is described.
