Abstract
T-stiffened skins were fabricated from carbon fibre/bismaleimide unidirectional prepregs by integral moulding and co-bonding in an autoclave and the effect of filler content and structural parameters (curvature and ply sequence) on the compaction of the skins investigated. Measurements of final laminate thickness of the T-stiffeners after cure and observation of defects located in the intersection between stiffeners and skins allowed conclusions to be made about the effect of fillers and structural parameters on compaction of the skins. 20 refs.

Abstract
The effects of dry blending by high-speed mixing and melt blending in an extruder on the mechanical and morphological properties of LDPE composites filled with calcium carbonate or fly ash were investigated. Mechanical properties were assessed through their tensile, flexural, impact and hardness properties. Dispersion of filler and interfacial filler-polymer adhesion were studied by scanning electron microscopy and the crystallinity level of LDPE in the composites analysed by X-ray diffraction. 22 refs.

Abstract
Sodium montmorillonites were treated with silane coupling agents and copper(II) sulphate and PVC composites fabricated therefrom in a twin-screw extruder. The microstructures of the modified montmorillonites and composites were characterised by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy and the flammability, morphology, rheology and mechanical properties of the composites investigated by various techniques, including the cone calorimeter method, TGA, torque rheometry and tensile, flexural and impact testing. 29 refs.

Abstract
The influence of through-the-thickness binder yarn count on fibre volume fraction, crimp and damage tolerance within three-dimensional woven carbon fibre composites was investigated. Fabrics were woven with varying binder yarn counts and subjected to dry fabric compression testing and compression after impact testing. It was found that a power law could be used to predict fibre volume fraction and identify the required pressure to achieve a specific volume fraction and that impact depth was significantly influenced by impact location on the through-the-thickness binders. 17 refs.

Abstract
Epoxy nanocomposites filled with unfunctionalised silica nanospheres and silica nanospheres functionalised with amine, epoxy or mixtures thereof were prepared and their dynamic mechanical properties investigated by dynamic mechanical analysis. The results are discussed in terms of shear storage modulus and loss factor and the effects of filler content and type of filler thereon. 37 refs.

Abstract
The frame mould temperature field in the autoclave process for the production of large-size advanced composite parts was simulated using ANSYS CFX computational fluid dynamics software. The simulation methodology was verified by performing experiments on the mould temperature field and comparing the findings with the simulation results and the effects of mould design parameters on the temperature field evaluated. 11 refs.
