Structural LDPE foams and conventional foams of the same density and chemical composition were produced using an alternative process to injection moulding. The structural and mechanical properties in tension, compression and bending of both types of foam were investigated and compared. The structural foams possessed better flexural properties than the conventional foams. No improvements in tensile and compression properties were found. 20 refs.
